Come take a journey with April Aloisio and Joanie Pallatto blending music and friendship as they perform songs from their new album, “April & Joanie Sing!”; a compilation of their VOCAL DUETS from 1986-2024 on Southport Records. Aloisio, a sensuous and passionate soprano and Pallatto, a sultry and inviting alto, agree that there are times when they can’t tell each other apart — sharing in harmony, scat and improvisation. These fourteen songs reflect many different styles, from Gershwin to The Beatles, from Hermeto Pascoal to Michael Franks, with a musical dose of original jazz, book ended with two new tracks featuring guitarist Fareed Haque. Featured artists are a who’s who of Chicago music and beyond: Fareed Haque: guitars, Mark Walker: drums and percussion, Bradley Parker-Sparrow: piano, Howard Levy: piano and harmonica, Dedé Sampaio: percussion, Cliff Colnot: conductor and arranger, Tomas de Utrera: flamenco guitar, Johnny Frigo: violin, Bob Dorough: vocal and piano, Brad Goode: trumpet, Gerard Aloisio: bass trombone, and King Fleming: piano, among many others.
April Aloisio has been singing professionally for over 40 years in Cincinnati, Chicago and beyond. She sings with minimal accompaniment or with bands, interpreting Jazz, Blues, Brazilian & Latin standards that are quite recognizable to all who listen. She has produced and recorded 8 CDs of her own as well as recordings with other well known jazz artists. Her repertoire features American jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday as well as music by Brazilian artists Elis Regina and Antonio Carlos Jobim. She sings in Portuguese, Spanish, & Italian with an engaging international flair. She also re-invents classic rock, country and pop songs, giving them new life and making them her own.
Joanie Pallatto was born to a father who played violin and a mother who played guitar. She attended the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and was introduced to the music of Chick Corea and Miles Davis and vocalists Betty Carter, Bob Dorough, Cleo Laine, Mark Murphy, and Annie Ross. In the 1970s she went on tour with the Glenn Miller orchestra. Described by Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune as having “a stirring and special voice,” Pallatto has expertise in all aspects of musical production.
